Phillip Island

This weekend we went to Phillip Island. It was pretty fun. Our tour guide was annoying; playing super childish music way toooo loud and talking a lot. We got to do a lot of different things. First we went to this chocolate factory which was neat. We got to write our name in chocolate and test a bunch of different chocolates. Next we went to a nature park place where was saw Koalas!
They were so cute! Next we went to a winery and tasted a few wines and cheeses. Then off to the nobbies; on the coast of the Island. It was sooo windy! It was really pretty though.

Lastly we got to go see the penguins swim up from the ocean and walk onto land for the night. They were really cute, but it was hard to see them. Especially since a lot of the people were foreign tourists from near by countries (Asia) and were freaking out and getting in the way; standing up and pushing through people to see the penguins. It was frustrating, but we got to see some. Haha I didn't know that penguins don't have knees and that's why they waddle! It was a fun day though really tiring, but cool!

Yarra Valley Wine Tour

On saturday I got to go on a wine tour through the Yarra Valley- about an hour drive from Melbourne. It was so much fun! We went to four different wineries throughout the day. First we went to Moët and Chandon; one of the few they have. It was really pretty, and we got to taste a few sparkling wines, a few white wines, and a red.
Then we went to three other wineries. I don't know the names of them, but they were very pretty also! and had some good wines.

Week 2 already??

It's been over a week, ah! Things have been getting really busy since we began classes and everything. Wednesday and Thursday last week we just had classes. Nothing exciting happened. I got to go to the Zoo last friday, and saw a kangaroo!
The zoo was pretty cool, they had giraffes, elephants, kangaroos, koalas, and a bunch of animals I'd never seen before. We also went to a Footy game! It's their football here - kind of like rugby and football combined.
It was Melbourne vs. Richmond - a pretty close game!

This week (week two) we just had class (borrrinngg) and we started our internships yesterday, Thursday! It was scary taking the trams and train all the way down to my internship in Balaclava - a 30 minute commute by transit. It was pretty simple though and not too bad. Public transportation is huuugee here and really nice and easy to use. Everyone it seems uses the trains and trams to get to work and just around the city. I'm interning at this place called the Pegasus Group as a media relations intern. It's been good! i've been working on figuring out how they can implement social media into their company and take advantage of those tools to communicate and market.

Tomorrow morning I'm headed off to a wine tour in the Yarra Valley, so should be fun!

Great Ocean Road Trip

Got back from our "orientation" (wasn't much of an orientation though). We drove more south along the coast along The Great Ocean Road. (Picture Below)
It was a really pretty drive, but sooo scary on a huge bus along the windy roads.
Thought we might crash and die the bus driver was driving so fast! We stayed at a hostel overnight which was interesting, but we didn't do much. Today we went to the Otway National Park and did this treetop walk over the rainforest. It was pouring rain, hailing, sooo cold, and windy. Not super fun but it was cool. I'm glad to be back at our apartments with a nice bed and warmth. Everyone is super jetlagged and we're always sleepy. I've never consistently gone to bed this early; we're all passed out by like 9:30. Oh we also saw a koala!! It was hugging a tree and just sleeping; so cute. Tomorrow we start classes (blaahh) so it's going to be a long day but i'm excited to finally get into a routine and have a schedule.

Welcome to Melbourne!

Well I made it to melbourne!

I got her at 6:00 am Melbourne time, so around 1:00 pm california time. It was a looong flight but it was good! I had a good window seat to sleep against, and all the chairs had tv's on the seats in front of them- with tons of new movies, tv shows, music, games and lots of stuff! (good thing since my computer died I would have been soo bored). Melbourne airport was confusing, especially baggage claim and going through customs I was so lost. But I made it through and got taken to our apartment place. The apartments are really nice- I have a 3 bedroom apartment with 4 other girls. We have a nice full kitchen and living area downstairs, and 3 bedrooms upstairs with 2 bathrooms. I was so lucky I got the bigger room with a bathroom in it and a nice closet.

It's so surreal that I'm here. It hasn't hit me yet that I'm halfway around the world right now. I've explored the surrounding streets a little bit. This morning me and a few other people in the program had breakfasts at a small little cafe. The ham and cheese croissants were delicious. We looked super foreign walking into it haha the waiter knew we were not from around there. It was really good though. Later a few of us had lunch at another small cafe down the street. There are a lot cafes, bars, and small boutiques near by which is nice. The weather isn't too bad here but I wish it was HOT! It was pretty chilly in the morning, but I was walking around in flip flops (whoops). It' was a little warmer this afternoon. Tomorrow we are going to tour around the city a little bit I think!

First day in Melbourne almost complete!

Bonvoyage!

I've been sitting in the LAX airport for 6 hours now. Computer died- smart leaving the charger in my suitcase. Good thing for iPods and wifi. I'm so nervous! I've never been out of the country before, and I'm travling alone. (I've had 3 people today who've thought I was like 16 and young to be traveling alone- embarassing when I told them I was 20). I just want to get on the plane and be on my wayyyy! I'll get to Melbourne around 5:30 am: so early- and I lose a day. I'm leaving today Thursday an get there on Saturday. It's a longgg flight: hope I don't get jetlag but that's doubtful. I'll be gone for 6 weeks- doing and internship and a class. I have an apartment with 4 other girls from all over the u.s. I'll be back at the end of July! So this will be my blog all about my trip (hoping I have time to blog)

Oh and I won't have a working U.S. Phone ahh, this is going to be hard
